Where We’ve Been, Where We Are and Where We’re Going

Lately, Thomas and I have been thinking very hard about our future. We’ve been making changes and taking risks and trying to figure out exactly what we want for our future and the future of our company. What we’ve decided is- there are lots more changes to come.

Last week, we went to Las Vegas for our very first ever WPPI convention. (WPPI is Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.) After attending MTH2010, and speaking to Jeff Holt and Lara Casey, we decided to go. Wow. It was an awesome experience, but boy, were we overwhelmed. We were excited to be there and be surrounded by so many photographers that we respected so greatly. While we were there, we were able to meet Chenin and Doug Boutwell, we got to visit with Lara Casey and Jeff Holt, we hung out with Jody and Zach Gray, we heard Mike Larson speak, and we heard Bobbi and Mike speak. Just being able to meet, talk to, and hear what these awesome people had to say, was an amazing experience.

We left for WPPI with a lot on our minds and in our hearts. We knew that we were getting ready to make big changes, and attending WPPI definitely helped us to realize that we’re on the right track. Which brings me to the very honest part of this blog post.

We are so grateful to our clients for helping us grow to the place we are now. Because of all of you, and because of the huge realizations we’ve had in the past months, we feel as though we are ready to take things to the next level.

Something I said to Thomas last week is really the best way I know to describe what we are feeling right now: “I feel like I’m a kid who started school for the first time, and my mom bought me a whole new wardrobe. I’ve been in school for just a few months, and now I’ve already outgrown all my new clothes, and it’s time to buy new clothes again.”

We are ready for new clothes for our company. The look of our web site, and the look of our blog, are just tiny pieces of the changes to come. We want to say thank you. Thank you for helping us to get here. And we also want to ask for your continued support and patience as we  travel down this path and take this journey.

Please know that regardless of the changes that we make, we are still the same people. We are still Thomas and Sarah Boutwell, a simple Southern boy and a simple Southern girl, in love with each other, who would love to meet you, take your pictures and tell your story. We just really feel that now, after being in business for the past year, we know how to represent ourselves as ourselves, who we really are, better than we have up to this point. We want our clients, friends, family and future clients to hear our name, visit the web site, visit the blog, look at our photos and know exactly who we are.

Thanks for your support, and get ready…We’re about to make some changes and make things happen.

Just a few photos we took on our iPhones while in Las Vegas.

My favorite part? “I feel like I’m a kid who started school for the first time, and my mom bought me a whole new wardrobe. I’ve been in school for just a few months, and now I’ve already outgrown all my new clothes, and it’s time to buy new clothes again.” Very well said. I’m right there with you. Here’s to ‘NOT starting over,’ rather- just ‘starting anew.’ReplyCancel
